DRACULA'S CASTLE

Learn more about
Dracula's Castle

Opening on December 1, 2023, Dracula Castle is a must-see on every tourist’s itinerary in search of the truth about Vlad the Impaler. With towering towers and ramparts, this medieval fortress takes you back in time, offering a glimpse into the region’s turbulent history.

Dracula's Castle represents the first large-scale permanent exhibition dedicated to the great Romanian voivode.
Spread over 3 floors, Dracula Castle offers you a unique experience that includes watching films, an exhibition of documents and objects (replicas) from the time of Vlad the Impaler, a reconstruction with mannequins of the Throne Room and the famous scene in which the Vodă responds appropriately to the defiant Turkish envoys, an exhibition of graphics by Valentin Tănase, as well as a series of photographs that recreate key moments from the voivode's life.

Dracula's Castle is shrouded in the mystery of the ruler Vlad Tepes, known as "Dracula". Vlad Tepes was a military genius and turned back even Sultan Mohammed, who said he could not take the country from a lord who did such great things. The Irish writer's novel portrayed Vlad Tepes in a dark aura.

Vlad Tepeș is the only ruler in history who attacked the Ottomans stationed in the fortresses on the Danube, terrorized them with lightning-fast night attacks, and the only Voivode in history who disguised himself and went to the Ottoman camp with the intention of capturing the Sultan himself.

At the castle, we put all our skill and ability into showing you the documents and evidence that reveal the truth about Vlad the Impaler - the military genius.

Among the exhibits we mention: Vlad's Sword, the seal - the only reproduction, the Order of the Dragon and many others.

A visit to Dracula's Castle offers the opportunity to learn the truth about the fiercest Voivode of these lands, to learn more legends and stories about this wonderful place, and to get to know our past better.

Guided tours, special events, such as book launches or performances with characters from the medieval era, will be coming soon!

The origin of the vampire stories about Vlad the Impaler seems to be the novel by Irish writer Bram Stoker, published in 1897. In fact, even during his lifetime, Vlad the Impaler was systematically denigrated by his political and military opponents. The Hungarian king Matthias Corvinus himself was personally involved in this campaign of lies.

The proposed films rehabilitate not only the image of the national hero Vlad Tepes Draculea but also the historical truth

On the top floor of the museum we present a reconstruction of the scene that took place in the throne room, which represents the moment when the arrogant Turkish envoys came to Vlad Vodă to demand, in addition to tribute, children for their army of Janissaries. Vodă told the guests to take off their turbans, and they refused, saying that they only do so in front of the great Sultan. We are waiting for you at the museum to find out the rest of the story.
